BROWNWOOD, TX (05/29/2013)(readMedia)-- Howard Payne University women's basketball player Kayla Scott was named to the  American Southwest Conference Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Team in her respective ASC 2012-13 sport, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The honor, in its sixth academic year, recognizes student-athletes that achieve a higher level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Kayla Scott

A four-year letterman, Kayla Scott has played in 91 games for the Lady Jackets scoring 440 total points. She was hit 79 three-pointers with a .297 career shooting pct from behind the arc. She has hit four three-point buckets in a game four times in her career. From Azle, Texas, Kayla scored a career high 23 points this season versus East Texas Baptist which earned her an ASC West Division player of the week award. Her undergraduate degree is in Secondary Education graduating in the spring on 2012. She is about to complete her MBA and is a three-time Academic All-Conference selection.

Overall, 106 student-athletes from basketball, baseball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field were named to the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams.
