WILLIAMSPORT, PA (04/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Rebecca Spencer of Granville Summit, Pa., was presented with Lycoming College's Chieftain Award during Honors Convocation on April 17.

First presented in 1951, the award is the highest honor given to a graduating senior and recognizes the student who has shown the utmost dedication and leadership qualities while at Lycoming and whose academic rank is above the median of the preceding senior class.

Spencer is a biology major with a chemistry minor seeking secondary education certification. She is a member of the dean's list and the Beta Beta Beta, Gamma Sigma Epsilon and Iruska honors societies.

Spencer's service to Lycoming students as a resident assistant has enriched the quality of student life at the College and earned her recognition as Residential Life Programmer of Excellence and Student Staff Member of the Year in 2010. Her active support of Hand in Hand, Colleges Against Cancer, Relay for Life and Play by FAITH Ministries has inspired others to give of their time and talents.

While at Lycoming, Spencer also played women's basketball and softball, earning All-Commonwealth Conference honors in softball and the MAC Sportsmanship Award in women's basketball. She has been named to the MAC Academic Honor Roll four times.

Spencer also received the Service to Lycoming Award for unselfish service and contribution to student life by a senior during their college career.
