Shaina Spring of Rock Hill, S.C., receives prestigious Ohio Newspaper Foundation scholarship

MARIETTA, OH (05/04/2010)(readMedia)-- Marietta College's Shaina Spring '12 (Rock Hill, S.C.) is among only five journalism students statewide to receive a prestigious Ohio Newspaper Foundation scholarship for 2010-11.

Spring, daughter of Steven Spring and Sue Ann Saltarelli, was one of three recipients of the $1,500 University Journalism Scholarship. Spring is a double major in Journalism and Advertising/Public Relations, and serves as a staff writer and sports editor of The Marcolian.

As part of the evaluation process, Spring submitted articles that were published this year in The Marcolian. She also had to submit a transcript, letters of recommendation and an autobiographical statement.

Spring was pleased to join the elite ranks of scholarship winners. "It is an honor to be recognized for my hard work in the journalism field," Spring said. "I wouldn't be where I am without the guidance of my teachers and support of my family."
