PEORIA, IL (10/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Lt. Col. John Husemann of LaGrange Park, Illinois, relinquished command of the 1st Battalion, 106th Aviation Regiment to Lt. Col. Christopher McIntyre, a resident of Cantrall, Illinois, and native of Peoria, Illinois, during a change of command ceremony Oct. 18 in Peoria, Illinois.

"It's good to be back in Peoria," said McIntyre. "This is the same hangar my father drilled in during the '60s when he was part of the 182nd Airlift Wing."

McIntyre's previous assignment was the Army aviation officer with Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Springfield, Illinois. He has deployed multiple places throughout his military career to include Panama, Honduras, Macedonia and Kuwait. He works full time as the Army Aviation Support Facility #1 commander in Decatur, Illinois.

In the past 20 years the battalion has transitioned from the Legacy UH-1 and OH-58 helicopters to the UH-60 Blackhawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters. The 106th Aviation has been involved in numerous overseas and stateside missions with its most recent deployment of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 238th General Support Aviation Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Husemann commanded the 1-106 Aviation Regiment since June 2012. His next duty position will be as the ground safety officer with JFHQ. He works full time as the director of operations at NTN Bearing Corporation of America in Mount Prospect, Illinois.

"Being a battalion commander, I sincerely enjoyed my time here as the leader of this unit and really will miss the time I spent with each of the units and everyone I have worked with," said Husemann. "Chris brings a lot of new experience and a lot of new perspective to the unit and I know he will further drive improvements."
