2011 Iowa State Fair to End on an Entertaining Note

DES MOINES, IA (08/08/2011)(readMedia)-- The 2011 Iowa State Fair is set to end on a high note on Extreme Sunday, August 21, with a rocking Grandstand show, an attempt to break a world record and a full day of free entertainment. Plus, Fairgoers can take advantage of half-price gate admission and free parking for carloads of five or more in the North Lot all day until 9 p.m. "Nothing Compares" to the Iowa State Fair, set August 11-21.

GRANDSTAND ENTERTAINMENT:

Known for her musical fusion of pop, R&B, soul, dance, jazz, rock and rap, Janet Jackson possesses an unprecedented list of achievements, and remains in the forefront of her craft. Her latest album "Number Ones," celebrates the 35 number one hits of her career, including "Rhythm Nation," "Nasty," "Escapade," "All for You," and "That's the Way Love Goes."

Tickets are $65 and $55, on sale now through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800/745-3000 and through the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office. Convenience charges will apply to all tickets. Grandstand tickets do not include admission to the Fair.

HELP BREAK A WORLD RECORD:

Established in 1911, the Iowa State Fire Marshal's office is celebrating 100 years of fire prevention. To mark the milestone anniversary, they will attempt to break the world record for most people simultaneously demonstrating "Stop, Drop and Roll". The world record attempt will take place at 2 p.m. on the Grand Concourse-over 1600 participants are needed.

FREE STAGE ENTERTAINMENT:

The hit single, "Love Like Crazy" spent a record-breaking 56 weeks on Billboard Magazine's list of Hot Country Songs, earning Lee Brice a nomination from the Academy of Country Music for their 2011 Song of the Year. Lee Brice will perform at 7 p.m. on the Susan Knapp Amphitheater.

Tenth Avenue North, a contemporary Christian band, has recorded hits "Hold My Heart" and "By Your Side." Their newest single, "You Are More," represents their commitment to remaining honest, genuine and faithful to what they believe. Catch them on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at 8 p.m.

If funk is what you love, watch Here Come the Mummies on the Anderson Erickson Dairy Stage at 7:30 p.m. They are known for performing R&B/Funk tunes such as "Funky Little Baby."

Formed in 1958, Paul Revere and the Raiders recorded 23 consecutive hit singles, including "Louie Louie," "Hungry," and "Kicks." Listen to their oldies rock hits at 8 p.m. on the Budweiser Stage.

During the day, grab a seat at the Anne and Bill Riley Stage for Bill Riley's Talent Search Finals beginning at 1:30 p.m. Over 350 talented acts from across the state qualified to compete in this year's competition. Six Sprout Champions will be showcased in the Championship Show. In the Senior division, nine finalist will compete for the championship title.

In addition to all the musical talent, Fairgoers can also enjoy one final day of Fair food favorites, strolling act Bandaloni, interactive fun with Shenaniguns Wild West Comedy Show, Fearless Flores Thrill Show, Swampmaster's Gator Show and the Extreme Canines Stunt Dog Show in the Kids' Zone
