RAYNHAM, MASS. (08/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Automotive shoppers looking for high-performance trims of models typically expect to sacrifice fuel efficiency, but the new 250-horspower 2013 Buick Verano Turbo proves that doesn't always have to be the case. Due to reach dealerships later this year and showcasing Buick's award-winning 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the Verano Turbo delivers an affordable sport option for entry-level luxury shoppers, but will still return 31 mpg on the highway.
While the standard Buick Verano comes with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine producing 180 horsepower and returning up to 32 mpg on the highway, the new turbo model borrows the 2.0-liter high-output Ecotec powerplant from the 2012 Buick Regal GS to give a fuel-efficient boost to the premium compact car. The turbocharged Ecotec engine already garnered praise for its power and sophistication when it was featured on WardsAuto World's 2012 10 Best Engines for North America list last year.
"Better fuel efficiency is increasingly important with today's drivers, but they don't want to lose any of the driving excitement," said Gary Carter, general sales manager of Mastria Buick GMC Cadillac, a Buick dealer in Massachusetts. "The Verano Turbo, with its award-winning Ecotec engine, adds the punch auto enthusiasts are looking for without hurting them at the gas pump."
Beyond the engine bay, the Buick Verano Turbo differentiates itself from the standard model with sport pedals, dual exhaust and a rear spoiler. Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert safety technologies will be standard on the Verano Turbo, as will Buick's IntelliLink infotainment system, which debuted on the 2012 Buick Verano.
Buick recently announced that the IntelliLink system will be standard on all 2013 Buick models, offering in-vehicle connectivity to motorists who like to stay in touch with the world around them. IntelliLink was designed to help drivers keep both hands on the wheel as often as possible and to minimize distractions while driving, utilizing voice commands and a seven-inch touchscreen to control everything from the available navigation system to audio functions.
IntelliLink also lets drivers connect their Bluetooth-enabled smartphones to their vehicles for hands-free calls and gives them the ability to stream audio using applications like Pandora Internet radio. To ensure its customers get the most out of the advanced system, the automaker will have a Customer and Relationship Service (CARS) Infotainment Customer Service Team offering live support to guide users who may be having difficulties.
"Today's drivers like to stay connected even when they're on the road, and Buick makes it easy for those buyers to get what they want without spending extra money on upgrades," added Carter. "By making IntelliLink a standard feature, Buick is staying ahead of the competition when it comes to infotainment."
