HYANNIS, MASS. (07/10/2012)(readMedia)-- Ford's newest crossover, the redesigned 2013 Escape, just reached dealerships in May, but it has already proven to be a hot item with American motorists. The next-generation Ford Escape averaged less than five days on showroom floors during its first full month of sales in June, making it one of the fastest-selling vehicles on the market.
Combined June sales of the 2013 and 2012 Ford Escape totaled 28,500 units for the compact crossover's best monthly sales ever, a 28-percent increase compared to the same month last year. Those numbers allowed the Escape to top the Honda CR-V as the best-selling SUV in America last month, reflecting the popularity of the outgoing model as well as the instant appeal of the next generation.
"Ford has really been pushing the envelope when it comes to new technology, and the 2013 Escape is the latest result of those efforts," said Mark Caliri, general manager of Hyannis, Massachusetts Ford dealership Balise Ford of Cape Cod. "No other compact utility vehicle offers the same mix of power and efficiency, making it a natural choice for consumers that are looking to cut back on fuel costs without cutting down capability."
Instrumental to the 2013 Escape's ability to tow, haul and save on gas is its pair of available EcoBoost engines, which combine turbocharging and direct-injection technology to produce impressive power with reduced fuel consumption and emissions. The smallest EcoBoost engine displaces just 1.6 liters, yet it outputs 178 horsepower while returning up to 33 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, a 2.0-liter EcoBoost unit churns out 240 horsepower to tow loads of up to 3,500 pounds, all while netting 30 mpg on the highway. Even the 2013 Escape's standard 2.5-liter Duratec engine is able to reach an impressive 31 mpg on the highway.
The Escape isn't the only Ford that has been quick to leave the showrooms recently. Even with plans for an all-new 2013 model this fall, the 2012 Ford Fusion set a new June sales record last month, moving 24,433 units. The Fusion sedan has sold 136,849 models year-to-date, a 4-percent increase year-over-year and proof that the current-generation Fusion still has pull with consumers.
Available with a range of powerful yet efficient engines, as well as a hybrid drivetrain that yields 41 mpg in the city, the 2012 Ford Fusion appeals to those looking to save at the pump as well as drivers not willing to give up performance. Buyers can harness up to 263 horsepower with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, while the standard four-cylinder unit yields 33 mpg on the highway. There is also an available all-wheel-drive system, a relatively rare option in the midsize sedan segment, which provides confidence-inspiring handling in rain, sleet and snow.
"A vehicle's popularity often drops as it ages, but the Fusion has defied that pattern," added Caliri. "Part of the Fusion's continued popularity comes from Ford's extensive incentives, which make this exceptional car also an incredible value."
