PORTLAND, ME (10/22/2014)(readMedia)-- Wednesday, October 22, 2014 a group of approximately 15 Airmen from the 243rd Engineering Installation Squadron are expected to arrive home after a six month-long deployment to Afghanistan. The Airmen are expected to arrive at the Portland Jetport at approximately 11:30 a.m., where they will be welcomed by friends, family, and co-workers.
During the deployment, the 243rd Engineering Installation Squadron provided information technology and communications upgrades to enduring bases throughout Afghanistan as well as removed communications and IT equipment from closing bases. Extremely active in the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the 243rd was one of the first units into Afghanistan after 9/11. Many members of this deployment were also part of that first deployment to Afghanistan more than 13 years ago.
Homecomings have been a military tradition and are an important step in reintegration. The intimate event is intended to recognize the Airmen and their families.
Airmen will enter the reception area from the baggage claim escalator where they will be released to waiting family and friends.
All media is welcome, and interviews will be facilitated by Air Guard public affairs staff.
