ALBANY, NY (10/01/2012)(readMedia)-- Mayor Gerald D. Jennings and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) are pleased to announce the second annual Downtown Albany Fall Car Show, the only open-air car show in the heart of downtown Albany, on Saturday, October 13, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Partnering with the Saratoga Automobile Museum, the event will be held rain or shine. North Pearl Street will be closed from State Street to Sheridan Avenue to create a safe exhibition and judging area for the show, which will showcase automobiles and motorcycles from all eras.

"The Car Show is another great family friendly event," said Mayor Jerry Jennings. "People of all ages and backgrounds love classic and modern cars, and North Pearl Street offers an amazing backdrop for the show. We invite you all to join us."

Retailers and restaurants throughout Downtown will be open during the Car Show, with many hosting sidewalk sales and offering promotions and specials along North Pearl Street during the event. In addition to the Car Show there will be family entertainment including the Joe Lowry & The Second Mile Blues Band, one of the winners of the recent Downtown Albany Blues Music Competition, and a Kids Zone. A free event guide will be available on the BID's website closer to the show as well as onsite at the event. Visitors should note that the 2012 Fall Downtown Albany Restaurant Week, set for October 13 – October 19, 2012 will kick off on the same day.

"We are excited to bring back the Downtown Albany Fall Car Show for its second year," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany BID, "Last year's event drew cars from New York and Massachusetts and this year we expect to double in size. It is a fun way to bring people Downtown."

"My business was up 20% just from this one event," stated Nicholas Mitsios, Owner of the Pearl Street Dinner. "Events like the Car Show offer the opportunity to market my business to potential new customers. Many of the car owners purchased coffee and breakfast that morning and have been back since."

The event is free and open to spectators. Vehicles and motorcycles can pre-register in advance for $10 or register the day of for $15.
