ALBANY, NY (10/03/2013)(readMedia)-- Mayor Gerald D. Jennings and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) are pleased to announce the third annual Downtown Albany Fall Car Show, the only open-air car show in the heart of downtown Albany, on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Partnering with the Saratoga Automobile Museum, the event will be held rain or shine on North Pearl Street. The Street will be closed from State Street to Sheridan Avenue to create a safe exhibition and judging area for the show, which will showcase automobiles and motorcycles from all eras.

"North Pearl Street offers an amazing backdrop for the fall car show," explains Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, "Downtown transforms as people of all ages and backgrounds walk through the show, enjoying classic and modern cars, transported back to a nostalgic time."

The event is free and open to spectators. Vehicles and motorcycles can pre-register in advance at www.saratogaautomuseum.org/lawn-show-series/ for $10 or register on-site the day of for $15. Retailers and restaurants throughout Downtown will be open during the Car Show, many offering promotions and specials along North Pearl Street during the event. In addition to the Car Show there will be family entertainment including Blues Sanctuary and The Tom Healey Band, the two winners of the recent Downtown Albany Blues Music Competition. Face painting by the Tulip Court and other activities will be available for children.

"We are excited to bring back the Downtown Albany Fall Car Show for its third year and welcome back many return participants and spectators," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany BID. "Last year's event drew 100 vehicles from New York and Massachusetts and doubled in size, with around 1,000 spectators. This year we expect similar growth."

Representatives from the Saratoga Auto Museum will be on hand during the show to judge vehicles in the following award categories:

• Best Rat Rod

• Best in Show

• Best Motorcycle

• Best Truck

• Best Classic

• Best Vintage

• Best Modern

• Best Themed Outfit (Vehicle and Crew)

• Best Original / Stock

Additionally, there will be a People's Choice Award based on popular vote and a Best Club Representation award presented to the club with the most vehicles present.

"We opened up our doors during the Car Show last year and set up shop right on the sidewalk just for this event," explained Frank DeJohn, Owner of Cravings on North Pearl, "It was a lot of fun to see the street full of life and to introduce my business to a new group of future customers."
