Oktoberfest Celebration

ALBANY, NY (09/27/2011)(readMedia)-- Wolff's Biergarten will hold the 3rd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration in Albany's Warehouse District on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM. The event held at 895 Broadway, North Albany, NY (located between North Ferry Street & Thatcher Street) will feature over 300 kegs of four different types of beer including Spaten Larger, Spaten Oktoberfest, Franziskaner and Pilsner Urquell. Other highlights of the event include a Dachshund "Wiener Dog" Race (30 dogs participating), a food tent serving traditional German food, live music from three different bands, a Stein Holding Competition, a penalty kick shoot out, jugglers and Fried Dough.

"Originally, Oktoberfest was a celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen on 12th October 1810," said Matt Baumgartner, owner of Wolffs Biergarten, "Today, the event is known as a 16 - 18 day beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany. Being a German Biergarten, it makes sense to put on an Oktoberfest celebration but it is also a lot of fun."

The event, which will be held rain or shine, is expected to draw approximately 6,000 – 8,000 participants to the Warehouse District in downtown Albany. The first 5,000 attendees will receive a commemorative 1.0 liter stein. Admission is $7.00 the day of the event or $5.00 in advance (tickets are available at Wolff's Biergarten). Kids 8 and under are free. Beer will be sold for $7.00 per .5 liter.
