3rd Quarter 2012 Tech Valley Indices Rise to Highest Levels In Almost 2 Years, National Number Sets 2nd Record

ALBANY, NY (10/09/2012)(readMedia)-- Hoffman Warnick LLC (HW), an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, NY and with offices in Rochester and Boston, has released the 2012 Third Quarter Tech Valley Patent Indices. The "Tech Valley Patent Indices" includes data for the Capital Region (Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties), Tech Valley, Tech Valley without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.

The Tech Valley Patent Index was very high in the third quarter, tracking along with a second-in-a-row record quarterly high for the national number of issued patents. "The USPTO continues to work on the backlog of patent applications. Tech Valley and the Capital Region numbers are also going up with the national numbers, so that's very good news" stated Spencer Warnick, partner at Hoffman Warnick.

The "Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of Tech Valley inventors. The 2012 Third Quarter POQ is: US Patent No. 8,234,088, issued to Mark Runkle for "Presentation of unbalance information for electrical asset management." The patent issued, July 31, 2012 and is assigned to General Electric. General Electric is a client of Hoffman Warnick.
