SPRINGFIELD, IL (11/16/2016)(readMedia)-- Maj. Timothy Barnhart, of Springfield, Illinois, took command of the North Riverside, Illinois based 405th Brigade Support Battalion during a change of command ceremony at the Marseilles Training Center Oct. 23.

Barnhart replaced Lt. Col. Brian Creech, of Petersburg, Illinois, who will go on to serve as the deputy director of the United State Property and Fiscal Office for Illinois.

Barnhart previously served as the battalion Support Operations Officer when the unit was first stood up in 2008.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to come back to the 405th and serve as its commander," said Barnhart. "My goal is to continue to build on the success that the Soldiers within the battalion have created."

Barnhart is to be promoted to lieutenant colonel on Nov. 18.

Creech was commander of the battalion since September 2013 and successfully led the battalion through three successful training periods to include a Battalion Staff Exercise at Camp Dodge, Iowa, a War Fighter Exercise at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, and a culminating battalion exercise at Fort Riley, Kansas to support the 1st Infantry Division. For his service as battalion commander, Creech was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.

"I could not be more proud of this battalion and of the Soldiers, noncommissioned officers and all that has been accomplished over the last three years," Creech said. "We have all come a long way, learned from each other, and improved and grown significantly."

Creech went on to thank his Soldiers for their hard work and dedication to the mission, and family for their support over the years.
