62nd Anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization

SPRINGFIELD, IL (03/31/2011)(readMedia)-- April 4 marks the 62nd anniversary of the formation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United States was among the first countries to join and support NATO missions. The Illinois National Guard can provide additional information on how the Guard supported NATO operations for interested media.

• The Illinois National Guard has supported NATO missions and operations in Iraq, Macedonia, Afghanistan and Libya.

• Since 1993 the Illinois National Guard has maintained a State Partnership Program with Poland, and assisted Poland in joining NATO in 1999.
