ABNB FCU Fishing Fest Charity Fundraiser Earns State-Level Community Service Award
CHESAPEAKE, VA (12/22/2011)(readMedia)-- ABNB Federal Credit Union has won 2nd Place in the state Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for credit unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities.
The credit union was recognized for its 7th Annual Deep Sea Fishing Fest, which raised $45,586 for Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, a not-for-profit hospital that handles approximately 6,000 inpatient admissions and 200,000 outpatient specialty, surgical and emergency room visits each year.
The unique fundraiser drew more than 150 participants, who had the opportunity to land the "big one" in a half-day fishing excursion out of Rudee Inlet. Media partners 92.9FM (The Wave), 97.3FM (The Eagle), ESPN Radio 1310, 100.5 MAXFM, and Star 94.1FM also participated in the event.
"Children get sick in bad economies as well as good; we knew it would be extra hard this year to meet our goal, but thanks to our vendors, our employees and our very generous members we were successful," said Tony Duncan, ABNB Vice President of Finance.
