ABNB Federal Credit Union Earns Community Service Award for Work with Children's Hospital
CHESAPEAKE, VA (11/05/2010)(readMedia)-- ABNB Federal Credit Union has won 3rd Place in the state Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for credit unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities.
The credit union's award-winning entry highlighted its June 2009 6th Annual Deep Sea Fishing Fest, which raised more than $55,000 for the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters (CHKD), a Children's Miracle Network-affiliated hospital serving Greater Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina. The unique fundraiser drew more than 200 participants, who had the opportunity to land the "big one" in a half-day fishing excursion out of Rudee Inlet.
Media partners 92.9FM (The Wave), 97.3FM (The Eagle), ESPN Radio 94.1, HOT 100.5, and Star 1310 also participated in the event.
"We're proud to partner with CHKD, which provides world-class medical care to young people in our community," said ABNB President and CEO Carl Ratcliff. "No family is ever turned away from the hospital, which relies on the generosity of our community to ensure it can continue to provide quality care, purchase needed equipment and continue to look for new and better ways to treat injuries and illnesses."
