Harrisburg, PA – Last evening, The American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) honored engineering firms at the organization's annual Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence gala at The Hershey Lodge, Hershey, PA.
This year's winners strengthened our infrastructure, enhanced public safety, raised the engineering profession's profile, and offered sustainable, economical solutions for clients and taxpayers. The winning projects are as diverse as the firms involved.
The Grand Conceptor Award, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual project for innovative techniques, sustainability, and complexity, was awarded to the I-81 River Relief Route Emergency Design Work, Designed by Gannett Fleming, Inc., Camp Hill, PA, for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 8-0. The design work for the I-81 Interchange and Route 22/322 ramps was the result of a required immediate response after a tanker truck overturned and caught fire on one of the ramps that connects the two highways. Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) was used to repair the structures, which was reopened within seven months.
The Best Panel Award, which recognizes the top entry based on text quality and visual appeal, was presented for the Siegrist's Mill Covered Bridge Restoration, designed by RETTEW Associates, Inc., for the County of Lancaster.
Ten projects received Honor Awards for their contributions to excellence in engineering. Through exceptional planning and engineering design, these award-winning projects significantly contribute to the quality of life for Pennsylvania citizens.
