DELHI, NY (05/05/2011)(readMedia)-- The Cannonsville Adventure Triathlon organizers are putting the final details together for hosting their inaugural triathlon on the Cannonsville Reservoir. Racers from around the western Catskills as well as New Jersey and downstate New York have registered for the event. With purses announced for fastest racers (man, woman, team) it should be a great day.
Athletes who train for triathlons usually do a swim leg instead of a paddle, so a race like this will bring out a different breed of racer competing as an individual. The most fun, though, may be had by those combining their skills across the activities. Broken down into the segments, the race sounds easy to manage. The CAT Race is comprised of just over a 10k run, then a four mile paddle, followed by an easy 12 mile bike. Teams can be 2, 3 or 4 people so you don't have to be an expert paddler to enjoy this race. Just find a friend who is.
Race organizers saw the team option as a great element, opening up the race to more recreational participants. Mary Beth Silano, executive director of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, saw this as the main reason to create the CAT Race. "Getting out on the Cannonsville Reservoir is a truly soul satisfying recreational experience. We wanted to get the attention of folks who would come here to boat on the reservoir at a leisurely pace, and the idea of the race to help spread the word that paddlers can access the water seemed like a natural fit."
The CAT Race blog (http://cannonsvilletriathlon.blogspot.com) is posting updates to the race that you can subscribe to and stay in touch with new details and activities associated with the event. There are links to online registration as well as a link to apply for a free NYC DEP Access Permit which is required of all racers.
