ALBANY, NY (07/10/2008)(readMedia)-- The state Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption will hold its initial meeting on Thursday, July 17, 2008.
As per Mental Hygiene Law, the Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption is established consisting of twenty-one (21) members who are representative stakeholders in the effort to combat under age alcohol consumption. The Advisory Council is charged with studying and analyzing information regarding underage drinking consumption; the responses to underage drinking made by government officials; to conduct public hearings as necessary; identify recommendations on educational programs and training programs for law enforcement officials and prosecutors, as well as the appropriateness and effectiveness of existing civil and criminal laws. The Council is responsible for submitting an annual report to the Governor, the Majority Leader of the Senate and Speaker of the Assembly regarding its activities and recommendations. This initial meeting of the Advisory Council will be geared to an overview of its role and identification of key priorities.

AGENDA: Meeting will include introductory remarks by Commissioner Carpenter-Palumbo, overview of the Council; presentation of the current efforts underway and statistics on underage alcohol consumption; discussion to determine Council's focus, priorities and key players and assign sub-committees.
