Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption Meets July 7 in Albany

ALBANY, NY (07/01/2009)(readMedia)-- The state Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption will hold its initial meeting on Tuesday, July 7, 2009.

As per Mental Hygiene Law, the Advisory Council on Underage Alcohol Consumption is established consisting of twenty-one (21) members who are representative stakeholders in the effort to combat under age alcohol consumption. The Advisory Council is charged with studying and analyzing information regarding underage drinking consumption; the responses to underage drinking made by government officials; to conduct public hearings as necessary; identify recommendations on educational programs and training programs for law enforcement officials and prosecutors, as well as the appropriateness and effectiveness of existing civil and criminal laws. The Council is responsible for submitting an annual report to the Governor, the Majority Leader of the Senate and Speaker of the Assembly regarding its activities and recommendations.

AGENDA: Meeting will include introductions of new members; update on Statewide Youth Survey; development of a Comprehensive Plan, including proposed Albany Symposium, Regional Hearings; discuss legislative issues regarding Social Host and Alcohol Beverage Tax; discuss the proposal of Wine Sales in Grocery Stores; and reports from Sub Committees.
