Advocates to Hold Emergency Rally to Defend Climate Law and Lower Energy Bills

ALBANY, NY (03/24/2026) (readMedia)-- On Wednesday, March 25th, hundreds of New Yorkers, representing dozens of climate, health, environmental, and consumer advocacy organizations, will hold an all-day emergency rally at the State Capitol in Albany to demand lawmakers protect and implement the Climate Law, New York's best pathway to lower energy costs.

The rally comes on the heels of Governor Hochul's numerous public comments about her plans to use the budget negotiating process to revise the climate law to lower standards. Weakening the law enables utilities to continue profiting from expensive, imported fossil fuels for longer while New Yorkers would continue to struggle with skyrocketing utility bills, as the Governor herself recently conceded.

New Yorkers' energy bills have spiked due to geopolitical conflict, wasteful utility spending on gas pipelines, and extreme weather, with winter gas bills rising 6% year after year. The Climate Law is New York's best bet to transition to a fairer, cleaner energy system that is efficient, clean, and affordable. Implementing the Climate Law will lower energy bills and create tens of thousands of jobs. Meanwhile, doing nothing and relying on our current fossil fuel status quo will cost New Yorkers $115 billion, according to the State's own data.

The day of action will begin with hundreds of attendees marching from the Legislative Office Building to the Capitol for a press conference at the Million Dollar Staircase at 12:15pm. After the press conference, advocates will march towards the Governor's Office for a spirited rally.
