Amy Vazquez earns OU Female Athlete of the Week

Freshman Amy Vazquez of the Oglethorpe University women's basketball team has been named the OU Female Athlete of the Week (Jan.6-12). A Business Administration major, Vazquez is a graduate of Lake Mary High School in Florida.

Vazquez enjoyed her best week of the season so far in leading the Stormy Petrels to wins on the road against Sewanee: The University of the South and Centre College. She scored 22 points on 8-of-11 overall and 6-of-9 from long distance against Sewanee, also securing 10 rebounds to record her first career double-double. She also passed out three assists in the contest. Then, she followed up with 13 points on 3-of-4 from beyond the arc in Sunday's win over Centre.

She and the rest of the Petrels host Millsaps College on Friday at 6 p.m., then welcome in Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
