East Greenbush, N.Y. student teams with cake designer for Oct. 6 domestic violence charity event

CAZENOVIA, NY (10/05/2012)(readMedia)-- This Saturday, Oct. 6, Andrea Courtwright, of East Greenbush, N.Y., will compete in the Domino Sugar: All American Classic Edible Fashion Runway Competition at the Shops at Ithaca Mall, 40 Catherwood Road in Ithaca, N.Y. This free event is a fundraiser for two domestic violence charities.

Courtwright, a Cazenovia College senior fashion design major, with her teammate Michelle Boyd from Good Gracious Cakes, will design and create an edible summer dress, which will be modeled on the runway along with other competitors' creations. The competition specifies five edible products that must be incorporated into each design.

Viewers can watch the four teams put the edible dresses together near the food court, starting at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 6. The winning college student will receive $2,500 as well as an archive tour of Tommy USA in New York City.

The event will benefit The Advocacy Center and the Aid to Victims of Violence Program at the YWCA of Cortland. Friends may support a favorite team by donating via the competition website, and the team that raises the most money will win a special prize and will receive an advantage in the competition.

There is a ticketed Meet-N-Greet hors d'oeuvre hour immediately following the fashion competition, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet competitors, judges and celebrities in attendance, including Fashion Designer Anna Hovet, Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs, and Norman Davis from The Sweet Life, among others.
