FULTON, MO (05/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Andrea Weed of Kansas City, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Junior Award at William Woods University's recent co-curricular honors banquet.
The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.
Weed is secretary of Beta Beta Beta biology honor society, treasurer of the Biology Club and a member of Order of Omega Greek honor society, Sigma Tau Delta English honor society, Campus Activities Board and Multi-Cultural Affairs.
She was a co-founder of the Pre-Medicine Club, has served vice president and is current president. She also is a biology tutor. She is a junior class representative on the Student Alumni Council. She previously served as the sophomore representative and executive publicity chairman.
Weed is fundraising chair of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and previously served as social chair, philanthropy chair, anniversary chair and out-of-house coordinator. She has been a team captain for Up 'til Dawn for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
She has participated in the Mid-Missouri Children's Writing Competition, has been the college representative on the Callaway County Humane Society Board of Directors, coordinator of Operation Christmas Child, volunteered with the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence and has served as assistant librarian at McIntire Elementary School.
She attended the 2011 NOVUS International Convention in St. Charles, Mo., and 2011 "Beyond Words" Sigma Tau Delta English Honorary Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa.
