CHESTERTOWN, MD (06/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Anna Burress '13 of Stevensville, MD, is the 2012-13 recipient of the Norman James Humanities Award for Excellence. The award is "given by the James family to the senior majoring in humanities who has shown academic distinction and represents the ideals of humanistic society."
Burress earned a bachelor of arts degree in international studies with a concentration in peace and conflict studies at Washington College's 230th commencement ceremony this May. She served as treasurer of the National Panhellenic Council, vice president of communications and vice president of new member education for the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and was founder and president of Washington College Amnesty International. Burress's Senior Capstone Experience examined US foreign policy toward the Republic of Haiti in the era of emerging globalized governance structures. This summer, she will continue a past internship with the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. She is seeking employment with a non-profit organization focusing on human rights and civil liberties and plans to take the Foreign Service exam.
