Arcade native wins Boren Fellowship

BELOIT, WI (04/26/2013)(readMedia)-- Allison Smith of Arcade, N.Y., was awarded a Boren Fellowship to study in Russia. Smith is a sophomore at Beloit College majoring in International Relations and Russian.

Smith will study in Moscow with the Beloit College exchange program in the fall semester and in Vladivostok, Russia with the School of Russian and Asian Studies in the spring semester.

"This scholarship will give me a more meaningful study abroad experience and will help me expand more on my experience when I return," said Smith, who is also a Weissberg Scholarship winner.

David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are sponsored by the National Security Education Program, a major federal initiative designed to build a broader and more qualified pool of U.S. citizens with foreign language and international skills. Boren Awards provide U.S. undergraduate and graduate students with resources and encouragement to acquire language skills and experience in countries critical to the future security and stability of our nation. In exchange for funding, Boren award recipients agree to work in the federal government for a period of at least one year.
