Area student receives Education Association scholarship

DES MOINES, IA (05/31/2013)(readMedia)-- Heather Vander Wilt, a junior majoring in Art Education at the University of Northern Iowa, is this year's recipient of the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) Scholarship for Future Educators. Heather is the daughter of ISEA members Keith and Beth Vander Wilt from the Lincolnway UniServ Unit and the Jefferson-Scranton Education Association in Jefferson.

The ISEA offers scholarships to helps sons or daughters of Association members become teachers. Applicants must have completed 60 semester hours (or equivalent) or they must be considered a junior at the college or university in which they are enrolled.

"Heather is an outstanding student and will be a tremendous addition to the teaching profession," said Tammy Wawro, president of the ISEA. She comes from a long line of teachers and, as she says, teaching is in her blood. Heather embodies the best of our profession in her enthusiasm, passion, and commitment; combined with her clear determination to succeed. We are delighted to be able to award her our Scholarship for Future Educators and hope it will help lighten her financial burden so she can continue to focus on her career," added Wawro.
