Fort Madison Superintendent wins statewide honor

DES MOINES, IA (08/02/2018) (readMedia)-- Erin Slater, Superintendent of the Fort Madison Community School District is a 2018 recipient of the Iowa State Education Association's TEAM Award
Established in 1990, the ISEA's TEAM award stands for Together, Educators and Administrators Make it Happen. The award honors a school administrator who has worked to create a collaborative, collegial working environment for all staff in a school building or district. Any school administrator, current or retired, is eligible for the award.
Slater was nominated for the award by NEA executive board member, Rachella Dravis, who is also an educator in the Fort Madison Community Schools. Slater was nominated with words of praise and enthusiasm for her leadership, work ethic and particular detail to a respectful environment for all.
"It is clear that in her short time as Superintendent, Erin has created a collegial and creative learning environment for educators and in turn, a supportive and learning environment for the students," said Mike Beranek, President of ISEA. "At a time when respect and appreciation are sometimes lacking, Erin's efforts are an outstanding example of how strong leadership is both effective and rewarding. She cares deeply about everyone in the building and has created an inspiring work environment. We applaud and celebrate Erin's guidance and look forward to many years of working with her," Beranek added
Slater was presented with her award at the ISEA's Celebration of Excellence Awards banquet on Monday, July 30 in West Des Moines. Public school educators from across the state came together to attend the banquet and Summer Leadership Conference which began on Monday.
