Army National Guard Team of Afghan Army Advisors Holds Farewell Ceremony at Camp Smith Sunday

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE, NY (01/13/2012)(readMedia)-- Forty-five New York Army National Guard Soldiers slated to deploy to Afghanistan will be honored during a Farewell Ceremony here on Sunday, Jan. 15.
WHO: Forty-five senior officers and non-commissioned officers (sergeants) assigned to the New York Army National Guard Stability Transition Team, along with Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, and other senior New York Army National Guard leaders.
WHAT: Farewell ceremony for the Soldiers and their family members.
WHEN: 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012.
WHERE: Building 500 (New Armory), Camp Smith Training Site, Routes 202and 6, Cortlandt Manor, New York.

BACKGROUND:
The New York Army National Guard Stability Transition Team is comprised of senior officers and non-commissioned officers with extensive experience in operations, training and logistics. Their mission will be to work with Afghan National Army commanders and staffs so those Afghan officers can refine their military skills.
The unit members will deploy to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, for 45 days of training prior to deploying to Afghanistan. The members will be working with units in the south of Afghanistan. The unit's Soldiers come from units across New York.
