Army Veteran Zeldin Commences Tour of Duty

Vows, ‘We won’t be outworked!’

MASTIC, NY (05/07/2008)(readMedia)-- The endorsed Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District last night launched a major new phase of his campaign, initiating an offensive devoted to reaching voters of all demographics.

Throughout Lee Zeldin's Tour of Duty, he will personally appear in front of a record number of Veterans Organizations, Fire Departments, Senior Centers, Civic Organizations, Community Events and other locations.

Zeldin kicked off the Tour of Duty Tuesday night with the Eastport American Legion followed by a visit with the St. James Veterans of Foreign Wars.

"As a military veteran, it's important to ensure that the sacrifices of our brave men and woman are never forgotten," said Zeldin, a staunch critic of his opponent's December 2007 decision to start cutting off ammunition, supplies and equipment for troops currently deployed to Iraq.

"Our community deserves better leadership in Congress. We need a bulldog that will stand up and fight rather than follow a misguided agenda of higher taxes and more spending," added Zeldin, who's committed to an old-fashioned, grass roots approach, committed to connecting with Long Islanders. "We may be outspent, but we certainly won't be outworked."

Zeldin served as an aide to State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle. The Shirley resident studied at the University at Albany, graduated from Albany Law School, and earned his commission through Army ROTC. He was a paratrooper, prosecutor and magistrate with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps. In the summer of 2006, he was a JAG attorney deployed to Iraq. He is currently an attorney at Raiser & Kenniff on Long Island.
