ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
Based in Orlando, VoicePlay performs its unique brand of entertainment-tight, a cappella harmonies mixed with hilarious on-stage theatrics-around the world. What began as a street corner barbershop quintet has evolved into an internationally acclaimed touring sensation.
While recreating the orchestrated sound of an entire musical production with nothing but the human voice (and spanning nearly 5.5 octaves!), VoicePlay performs tunes from a variety of eras and styles-hip hop, Broadway, country, pop-as well as themes from video games and Disney films. The group's popular "Road Trip" video even spoofs five weary passengers disagreeing over the radio station with all effects and tunes created using only vocal sounds.
Enjoyed by all ages, VoicePlay last appeared at the Arts Center as 42Five in 2012.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
EARL ELKINS, JR. (tenor) is heard on most leads in VoicePlay's songs. Involved in organized musical groupings from a very early age, Earl has traveled the globe in pursuit of the ultimate vocal challenge, and his rock opera tenor voice was heard from England to Japan while he toured as an ambassador for the city of Orlando with then mayor Glenda Hood. A member of VoicePlay since its inception in 2000, Earl plays a large part in creating the group's melodies and alternate harmonies. When not working with VoicePlay, Earl can be seen performing on cruise lines and in Orlando, and he also plays the French horn and trumpet.
GEOFF CASTELLUCCI (bass) has well over 10,000 professional a cappella performances to his credit, and has been singing since he can remember (his earliest musical memories are of playing the piano at his grandfather's house in upstate N.Y. when he was five). A founding member of VoicePlay, Geoff also plays classical and jazz piano, as well as guitar, and is the brainchild behind many of the group's on-stage antics. When not working with VoicePlay, Geoff can be seen making the rounds at Orlando area theme parks, including performing as a very rumbly Frankenstein and Elwood Blues at Universal Studios Florida.
LAYNE STEIN (vocal percussion) has been singing since his earliest years in school and was originally trained as an instrumentalist, playing the violin for 14 years before joining VoicePlay. Layne oversees production for the group, including on all albums, and is one of its main writers (he has also penned and produced for a number of artists through his recording studio, Rayne's Room). In addition to his musical interests, Layne also holds a degree in computer engineering from the University of Central Florida. When not performing with VoicePlay, Layne can be seen behind a console in his studio or behind a mixing board running sound for a live show.
ELIEZER "ELI" JACOBSON discovered a cappella in high school, along with his other loves: writing, recording, Soul, and rock and roll. From the age of 15, Eli has been actively working toward spending most of his time either in studios or on stage, and has fronted many rock bands and written hundreds of songs. He also holds a degree in Business Management. Eli is responsible for some of VoicePlay's quirky, futuristic musical ideas, and is known for his powerful, soulful rock vocals.
TONY WAKIM has been performing since he can remember. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Art and Design, and has a love for feature animation. When hand-drawn 2d animation was retired in 2003, Tony began performing. His credits include original pop music, theatrical tours, and Disney.
