Association President Appointed to National Board
ALBANY, NY (12/15/2009)(readMedia)-- William J. Mellin, president/CEO, Credit Union Association of New York, was elected 1st vice chairman of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) executive board. With that appointment, Mellin also steps into the role of chairman of the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), the federal PAC for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). The appointment took place at the organization's annual meeting.
"It's an honor to be serving on the board of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues and to fulfill the duties that go along with the dual appointments," said Mellin. "AACUL is a wonderful organization. I look forward to melding my knowledge, skills and abilities with those of my co-board members to bolster our leagues and in so doing contribute to the success of our nation's credit unions."
The American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) is comprised of credit union association and leagues representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia. AACUL's mission is based on the premise that the vitality of the credit union community is enhanced by a strong three-tiered system that has advocacy as its primary focus.
CULAC is administered by the Credit Union National Association. Funds raised from individuals in the credit union community support credit union-friendly candidates who are running for the U. S. House and Senate. In the 2008 election cycle, CULAC raised over $4.3 million and donated over $2.8 million to federal candidates, making it the 15th largest PAC in the country in terms of direct candidate support.
