CAZENOVIA, NY (07/16/2010)(readMedia)-- Cazenovia College's Summer Art Series will culminate with an auction of Lucy Eliot paintings, and a raffle of several works that were part of the 2010 Summer Art Series. The proceeds will provide funds to continue the Summer Art Series in the future. Eliot and her family were summer residents of Cazenovia for many years. She became enamored with the Central New York landscapes and industrial buildings seen in her work. Miss Eliot recently celebrated her 97th birthday in her own New York City apartment.
The auction will take place on Sunday, Aug. 1 at the Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall, at the end of the" Cazenovia Artists: A Retrospective of Four Fabulous Women" exhibition. The gallery will open as usual at 1 p.m., followed by a formal preview and reception at 3:30 p.m., concluding with the Lucy Eliot Art Auction beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The paintings offered are from a collection donated to the College by Lucy Eliot in order to promote the arts in the Cazenovia area. To that end, the sale of paintings not selected for the College's permanent collection will provide funds to continue the Summer Art Series. Several of the works to be auctioned may be viewed on the art gallery Web site at www.cazenovia.edu/summerart - then click on "Cazenovia Artists: A Retrospective of Four Fabulous Women."
A number of art works will be raffled during the auction. Among the items are a ceramic flower made by Prudence Burg Hubbard, who was an art professor at Cazenovia College, and a works by Assistant Professor of Photography Neil Chowdhury, and other artists who took part in the 2010 series. Winners will be chosen during the auction.
The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall, 6 Sullivan St., is on the corner of Sullivan and Seminary streets in Cazenovia. For more information about the auction, contact Sylvia Needel, Summer Art Series committee member, at 315-655-7261, or by e-mail at sneedel@cazenovia.edu.
