BCD Chooses Firm for Head of School Search

Rob Peterson to depart after 14 years at end of 2007/08 school year

LENOX, MA (09/28/2007)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school serving Pre-kindergarten through Grade 9, announces that its Board of Trustees has selected Gregory Floyd & Associates, Inc. of Kennebunk, ME to guide the school in the search and selection of a new head of school to replace Rob Peterson, who will be stepping down at the end of June after serving as BCD’s Head of School for 14 years.

Rob Peterson, 56, who came to BCD in 1994 from St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School in Washington, D.C., informed the Board in June of his decision to leave BCD, citing personal reasons. “I have been privileged to be a part of the BCD community for 14 years, far longer than is the norm in the independent school world,” says Head of School Rob Peterson. “With our children now in college, my wife Gini and I have an opportunity to embark on a new professional stage in our lives and look forward to new opportunities and challenges that will take us away from the Berkshires.” Peterson will stay on as Head of School through June 30 to lead the school throughout the school year and aid in the transition to a new Head.

Gregory Floyd has a 40-year career of service to independent schools as a School Head, NAIS executive, and consultant. His firm, Gregory Floyd & Associates, Inc., has conducted more than 160 searches for heads of schools. “Gregory, and his assistant, Claudia Daggett, impressed us with their enviable track record of success and with the core values we share with regard to the qualities we seek in a new Head of School,” says Sion Boney, president of the Board.

“We have known of BCD for years because of our deep independent school network and have followed the school’s progress with admiration,” says Gregory Floyd, president of Gregory Floyd & Associates, Inc. “We are confident that the school’s mission, location, and size will attract an abundance of candidates.”

As part of the search process for a new head of school, the search firm has been soliciting views from a wide range of constituents – from students to parents, faculty, Board members and the administrative team – to prepare an accurate profile of the school that will help them identify candidates who embrace the BCD community culture and support the school’s mission. The Board and search team will then be meeting with potential candidates in November and December, and hopes to announce the next Head of School early next year.
