BROOKLINE SCOOTER PILOT REPORTS A SUCCESSFUL FIRST TWO MONTHS

The leading U.S. smart mobility company's e-scooter pilot program increases number of scooters and exhibits high ridership

BROOKLINE, MA (06/13/2019) (readMedia)-- Brookline, MA – Since Lime – the leading U.S. smart mobility company – rolled out its e-scooters in Brookline two months ago, more that 10k riders have chosen a Lime scooter.. The number of Lime e-scooters in Brookline has also increased twice - from 100 to 125, and now to 150 - to accommodate high demand.

"The early success of the e-scooter program in Brookline is proof that the rest of the Boston metro area would greatly benefit from this affordable, eco-friendly transportation option," said Scott Mullen, Lime Director for Northeast Expansion. "Lime's e-scooters are already proven to be reliable and sustainable first-and-last mile transportation options for residents and visitors of Brookline."

Lime is the largest shared scooter and bike provider in the United States, operating in more than 100 cities on five continents, with more than 50 million rides already taken. Lime is the only multimodal provider to offer electric scooters and electric bikes in the Boston Metro area.

Lime's dock-free fleet is GPS and 3G-enabled, making it simple for riders to find, unlock and pick up a nearby scooter using their smartphone. Riders can simply end the ride on Lime's mobile app and responsibly park their vehicle by the street curb or at a bike rack.

On Wednesday, Brookline hosted a Community Hearing on the E-Scooter Pilot Program. Community members spoke to representatives from Lime and Bird as well as Select Board Member Heather Hamilton, Transportation Board Chair Chris Dempsey and Town Staff. The hearing allowed community members to ask questions and give feedback on the pilot program.

"Feedback forums like the one we had tonight are an important component as we assess our pilot program. This feedback gives us useful information on how this technology might coexist along with other modes of transportation." said Heather Hamilton, Brookline Select Board Member.

"The majority of comments, whether in support of the pilot or in opposition, mentioned the lack of dedicated, safe infrastructure for micro-mobility. Town residents agreed that their public right of way is built overwhelmingly for automobiles," Mullen said. "From here we can begin to address the imbalance and work towards a micro-mobility friendly community. I look forward to working with the Town to test new infrastructure during the remainder of the scooter pilot."
