WALLA WALLA, WA (03/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Mary Allain of Bellevue recently presented her research at a press conference at Whitman College on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Allain was one of fifteen students participating in a research course at Whitman College called "The State of the State for Washington Latinos." Students in this course conducted academic and community-based research in one of five different areas related to the relationship between Walla Walla Latinos and their surrounding community.

Her project, entitled "Community Needs and Service Access in Public Schools," looked into the ways in which neighborhood organizations in Walla Walla met and failed to meet the needs of the low-income population within the city.

Allain, the daughter of Heidi Benton and Patrick Allain, is a 2008 graduate of Bellevue High School. She is currently a senior sociology major at Whitman.
