Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Gilman Scholarship supports students who are pursuing underrepresented majors that may face financial obstacles to study abroad. The program's goal is to provide study abroad opportunities to a more diverse student population, as well as attract students to non-traditional countries and regions. Loaiza is one of over 800 undergraduates across the United States to receive the award for the fall semester.
