Berkshire Country Day School Classics Day 2018 Award Winners

LENOX/STOCKBRIDGE, MA (01/25/2018) (readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School's Upper School Latin students (Grades 7 and 8) joined the Pioneer Valley Classical Association annual Classics Day at Mount Holyoke College on January 19, 2018. BCD's Latin students enjoyed participating in workshops and contests with their peers (in grades seven through twelve) from Academy Hill, Amherst Middle School, Belchertown, Herberg Middle School, Lenox Memorial High, MacDuffie, Pittsfield High, Taconic High, and Williston. The BCD students were accompanied by Latin teacher Eugénie Fawcett, English teacher James Fawcett, Associate Head of School Leigh Doherty, and Head of School Paul Lindenmaier. BCD students received the following awards.

ART CONTEST

Sculpture: Second Place: seventh grader Norah Smith (Sheffield, MA)

Mosaics: Second Place: eighth grader Esmé Lazar (Great Barrington, MA)

Military: Second Place: seventh grader Jack Ballinger (Richmond, MA)

Models: Second Place: seventh graders Esme Mamousette (Craryville, NY) and Genevieve Syrett (Great Barrington, MA). Third Place: seventh graders Lana Messinger (Chatham and Spencertown, NY) and Lilah O'Neil (Stockbridge, MA)

ORAL INTERPRETATION:

Advanced Poetry – First Place: eighth grader Chase Vermeulen (South Egremont, MA); Second Place: eighth grader Keely O'Gorman (Lee, MA); Third Place: eighth Henry Van Schaick (South Egremont, MA)

Intermediate - Second Place: eighth grader Halle Davies (Lenox, MA)

CERTAMEN:

Latin 1 – Second Place: BCD team of seventh graders Sam Creelan (East Chatham, NY) and Rafi Karpowitz (Hudson, NY), and eighth graders Chase Vermeulen and Henry Van Schaick

Myth – Second Place: eighth graders Aurora Benson and Donald Miller (Pittsfield, MA), Keely O'Gorman, and seventh grader Samantha Seeley (Richmond, MA)
