Berkshire Country Day School Classics Day Awards

LENOX, MA (01/25/2012)(readMedia)-- Berkshire Country Day School's Upper School Latin students (Grades 7-9) joined the Pioneer Valley Classical Association annual Classics Day at Mount Holyoke College on January 20, 2012. BCD's Latin students, in grades seven, eight, and nine, enjoyed participating in workshops and contests with their peers from Amherst, Herberg, Lenox, Pittsfield, Taconic and Williston. The BCD students were accompanied by teachers Eugénie Fawcett, Carmen Dockery Perkins, and James Fawcett. BCD students, with grade and town of residence listed, received the following awards:

ART CONTEST

• Sculpture – First Place: Alaina Grygier (G8, Lenox); Second Place: Rebecca van der Meulen (G8, New Lebanon, NY); and Third Place: Andrea Velez (G7, Lee)

• Drawing/Painting – eighth graders - First Place: Elise Ghitman (Ashley Falls); Second Place: Harper Glantz (Pittsfield); and Third Place: Francesca Lally (New Lebanon, NY)

• Mosaic – First Place: Sam Kittredge (G8, Dalton)

• Military – Seventh Graders - First Place: Henry Dolan (Chatham, NY) and Third Place: Cooper Parker (Hudson, NY)

COSTUME CONTEST:

• First Place: Christopher Massini (G7, Sheffield) as "Achilles"

• Second Place: Rebecca van der Meulen (G8, New Lebanon, NY) as "Demeter"

ORAL INTERPRETATION:

• Advanced Drama – Second Place: eighth graders Elise Ghitman (Ashley Falls) and Nicholas Roszkowski (Lenox); Third Place: Isabelle Raposo (G9, Valatie, NY) and Rebecca van der Meulen (G8, New Lebanon, NY)

• Advanced Poetry – First Place: Ian Price (G8, Craryville, NY)

• Intermediate Prose – Second Place: Sam Kittredge (G8, Dalton)

• Novice Poetry – Second Place: Emily Yeager (G7, Lenox)

CERTAMEN:

• Latin II – First Place: BCD: Isabelle Raposo (G9, Valatie, NY), Elise Ghitman (G8, Ashley Falls), Emma Lezberg (G8, Pittsfield), and Jacob Lezberg (G8, Pittsfield)

• Novice/Latin I – Second Place: BCD Seventh Graders Alec Goffin (Great Barrington), Jesse Kramer (Pittsfield), Asa Mervis (Great Barrington) and Sam Seckler (Alford)

• Mythology – First Place: White Team of Eighth Graders Alaina Grygier (Lenox) and Jacob Lezberg (Pittsfield), and Seventh Graders Jesse Cassuto (Spencertown, NY) and Cooper Parker (Hudson, NY); Third Place: Blue team of Eighth Graders Frank Piasecki (Great Barrington) and Nicholas Roszkowski (Lenox), and Seventh Graders Teddy Michaels (Richmond) and Jackson Rich (Pittsfield)
