Berkshire Country Day School, an independent school for students in Preschool through Grade 9, is pleased to present two one-act comedies by Anton Chekhov & Moliere on Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th at 7:00PM at BCD's Winthrop Theater in Lenox, MA.

"The Proposal," written by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov in 1888, is a fast-paced play of dialogue based action and situational humor. A satire on Russia's upper middle class and courtship, the play points out the struggle to balance the economic necessities of marriage and what the characters themselves actually desire.

"The Pretentious Young Women," written by French playwright Moliere in the 1650's, is a biting comedy of manners taking aim at the conceited affectations of two provincial girls concerned only with matters of sophistication and fashion.

BCD's new Theater and Film Director, Amy Brentano, chose the one-acts for their resonance in contemporary society. The young ensemble cast of ten actors explored the rich material while learning about comic timing and participating in all aspects of a theater production: design, publicity, lighting, props, and costumes. The evening is a showcase for a multitude of student talents.
