BINGHAMTON, NY (06/11/2012)(readMedia)-- A recent Binghamton University graduate Kaitlyn Orr from Port Washington, NY, recently won top honors as a member of the winning team in this year's Manley's Service Learning Project.
The project, offered in the capstone class for leadership and consulting majors, partners teams of Binghamton University students with not-for-profits in activities geared toward helping the organization develop plans and strategies for future development. At the end of the semester, teams are judged on strength of their project reports and recommendations, with the winning team earning $2,000, which is then used to implement the team's findings.
Known collectively as the Zenith Consulting group, Orr and her teammates earned top honors for their work with the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center (KOSC), a non-profit hands-on science, technology, engineering and math center in Binghamton, NY. The team conducted research, analyzed data and developed recommendations and a report for KOSC.
"We are very lucky to have worked with such a hard-working and insightful team of Binghamton University students," said Andrew J. Deskur, executive director of KOSC. "The work they did on this project will be the invaluable to the board of directors as we set out to chart a new course for Kopernik. We are also extremely grateful to Manley's for sponsoring this project. All the non-profit organizations working with the Binghamton University students have benefited greatly from this project."
