Bridgeport resident David Santiago named Command Sergeant Major of New York Army National Guard Battalion

LATHAM, NY (04/30/2015)(readMedia)-- Bridgeport resident David Santiago a veteran of the war in Afghanistan has been named Command Sergeant Major of the New York Army National Guard's 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, headquartered in Yonkers, N.Y.

Santiago, a member of the Bridge Port Police Department, has served in and Army and Army National Guard since 1980.

As Command Sergeant Major he is the highest ranking enlisted Soldier in the battalion and is responsible for the training, discipline and morale of the enlisted force. The 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion has elements in Yonkers, Peekskill and Orangeburg.

Santiago served in Kuwait with the New York Army National Guard's 1108th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company in 2010 and deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 and 2013 as the 1st Sergeant of Company C, 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion.

Santiago has also served as a team chief, section sergeant, platoon sergeant and operations sergeant major. He is a graduate of the Basic and Advanced Non-Commissioned Office courses and the 1st Sergeants Course.

His awards include two awards of the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Expert Infantry Badge and the Parachutists Badge.
