Brookhaven Resident Martha Laird Bowen Receives Oglethorpe University's Talmage Award

ATLANTA, GA (04/18/2013)(readMedia)-- Brookhaven resident Martha Laird Bowen, a 1961 graduate of Oglethorpe University, will be presented with the Talmage Award during Oglethorpe University's Alumni Weekend, April 19-21, 2013.

The Talmage Award recognizes alumni who contribute time, talent or financial resources to one or more programs of the university and/or is distinguished in the business or professional world.

Throughout the years since she graduated, Bowen has continued to dedicate her time and service to the university. She has served on the President's Advisory Council, the Alumni Board, Oglethorpe's Board of Trustees and hosted events in her home for students and faculty.

Oglethorpe University was founded in 1835 and enrolls 1,100 students representing 34 states and 28 countries. Oglethorpe is a member of the Annapolis Group, an organization of America's most selective liberal arts institutions. For seven consecutive years, Oglethorpe has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for commitment to and achievement in community service. In 2010, Oglethorpe was named among U.S. News & World Report's Best Liberal Arts Colleges and Forbes' America's Best Colleges. Princeton Review named Oglethorpe a Best Southeastern College, ranking it in four national top-20 lists (Professors Get High Marks, Classroom Discussion Encouraged, Lots of Race/Class Interaction and Best College Theatre).
