Bruins Legends Bound for Beverly, Massachusetts

Salem-Area Ford Dealer Holds Old-Fashioned Tent Sale

BEVERLY, MA (08/05/2010)(readMedia)-- Rantoul Street in Beverly will come alive with the sights, sounds and tastes of a traditional tent market on Saturday, August 14, from 9 AM to 5 PM as Thomas Ford holds its Old-Fashioned Selling Event. Visitors to the Massachusetts Ford dealer will get a chance to meet members of the 1970 Bruins Stanley Cup team, view service demonstrations and learn about new Ford cars and trucks.

"We're giving our neighbors in Danvers, Peabody, Beverly and Salem the chance to experience an old-time tent sale, complete with celebrities, food and special offers," said Jeff Klein, general sales manager of Thomas Ford. "We're inviting every Greater Boston Ford and Boston Bruins fan to bring their families for an afternoon of fun."

Former Boston Bruins Ken Hodge and John McKenzie will be at Thomas Ford from 12 PM to 2 PM on August 14. North Shore radio station WBOQ will broadcast live from 11 AM to 2 PM, and visitors can enjoy Cherry Hill ice cream and great barbecued food throughout the day.

The Thomas Ford staff will be providing car-care demonstrations, showcasing parts and offering service specials. Brake and Clutch of Salem will be on hand to demonstrate their full line of truck customization accessories, including snowplows, dump bodies and specialized racks.

The Sun N' Air Golf Center of Danvers will also be under the tent, giving away coupons and the chance to win a HDTV by guessing how many golf balls have been packed into the interior of a new Ford Fiesta. Additional giveaways will take place throughout the afternoon.

While the focus is on fun, selling is also a big part of the event. Thomas Ford will offer special pricing on many new and used models, and the used car staff will be available to give instant valuations on trade-ins.

In the 19th and early 20th century, tent sales and fairs were a common sight on the North Shore and across America. Traveling merchants and local businesses alike would gather to showcase their wares and services. The limited time of these events made them popular social occasions, since many town residents would gather on an afternoon to learn about new products and talk to their neighbors.

"We're putting very modern Ford trucks and cars in a traditional sales setting, which is a lot of fun," Klein said. "We hope this environment encourages people to ask questions, learn about the amazing innovations Ford is offering in its new models and get maintenance tips from our trained Ford service technicians. It should be a great family day on the North Shore."
