BRYANT, IL (08/24/2016)(readMedia)-- Lt. Col. Corey Wise, of Bryant, Illinois, was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding leadership and long-lasting dedication to the 2-123rd Field Artillery Battalion during a ceremony in Milan, Illinois, Saturday Aug. 13.
Wise has spent more than 20 years in the 2-123rd Field Artillery and has served in multiple positions. He commanded Bravo Battery during Operation Iraqi Freedom III in 2005, then in 2010 deployed again as the battalion executive officer for the Multi-National Observer Force in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt.
Wise has been the 123rd Field Artillery commander since 2013 and turned command over to Lt. Col. Krista Soria of Springfield, Illinois, on Aug. 13. Wise will now be assigned to the 244th Digital Liaison Detachment, based in Chicago as the executive officer. The 2-123rd Field Artillery will inactivate Aug. 31 and transition to the 2-123rd Engineer Battalion.
