Business Council Names Hughes Vice President of Communications

ALBANY, NY (07/08/2013)(readMedia)-- The Business Council of New York State today announced the appointment of Gary Hughes, a highly experienced public and media relations executive, to serve as vice president of communications for the state's leading business organization.

Hughes has more than three decades of experience in public relations and corporate communications, including more than 15 years with MVP Health Care. At MVP, Hughes was responsible for the health insurer's public and media relations across New York State, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Hughes has also directed communications for The College of Saint Rose and provided public relations counsel to numerous clients of the former Albany-based Wolkas Communications Group.

Hughes began his career as a broadcast journalist, first working in the Hudson Valley and later as news director of WROW AM-FM in Albany.

Hughes specializes in communication surrounding health care, health insurance, government, public policy, education, and economic development.

A resident of Schenectady, Hughes also serves on the Schenectady County Legislature, where he is the majority leader. He is a graduate of the State University New York College at Oneonta.
