CC/NY Responds to Trump Tweet: "Nov election is going to be a success, & that is why the President is afraid"

NEW YORK, NY (07/30/2020) (readMedia)-- Last night and this morning, the President tweeted that the New York election is a mess because of mail-in voting, raising suspicions about the legitimacy of the November elections. In response, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY issued the following statement:

"In our first pandemic election New Yorkers voted in record numbers thanks to expanded absentee voting; a previously sleepy program the BOE scaled up in only six weeks under impossible circumstances. New York has learned important lessons from the experience, passed legislation to improve the process and protect access to the ballot for all New Yorkers, and we continue to work towards a full and fair democracy. The November election is going to be a success, and that is why the President is afraid."
