POTSDAM, NY (04/14/2011)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series, which is known for bringing a rich mixture of programs and fine arts educational opportunities to the Potsdam community, has recently been awarded a $500 grant from Price Chopper.

The grant will help fund the performances of CORBIAN Visual Arts and Dance's "Darwin the Dinosaur" production, as part of the CPS education program Meet The Arts.

"Darwin the Dinosaur" will be performed at SUNY Potsdam's Sara M. Snell Music Theater at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. Classes from local districts, including St. Regis Mohawk, Colton-Pierrepont, St. Regis Falls, Edwards-Knox and Brushton-Moira central schools, will attend the matinee performances along with several community groups.

Area students will have the opportunity to watch as Darwin learns the difference between good and bad, love and hate, and friends and enemies -- leading him to find the true meaning of love. Created by Ian Carney and Corbin Popp, the mixture of modern dance, special lighting and visual effects make "Darwin the Dinosaur" what the Detroit Music Hall calls "a truly unique and innovative theatre experience."

"We're honored to have received this grant from such a well known community business," said CPS Education Outreach Coordinator Anna Marie Wilharm. "More than 600 local students will get to experience the magic of this production, and it couldn't happen without the support of organizations like Price Chopper."

Price Chopper's Golub Foundation was established in 1981 with the mission of enhancing and improving the quality of life within Price Chopper communities by supporting programs that work with arts, culture, education, health and human services and youth.
