Community Performance Series will present “Anything Goes” from July 22 to 26 in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

POTSDAM, NY (07/14/2014)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series will continue its 2014 summer musical series with the Cole Porter classic, "Anything Goes." Performances will be offered in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music from Tuesday, July 22 to Saturday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. nightly, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday.

"Cole Porter's fun, catchy lyrics and music will have you humming for days. The music, coupled with intricate tap numbers and the cheeky humor of the 1930s storyline, makes for a highly entertaining performance. While the story is quite different, those who liked 'Cats' for the quality production and exciting dance routines will equally enjoy 'Anything Goes,'" said CPS Executive Director Amy Flack.

"Anything Goes" takes place on the SS American, where two unlikely pairs set off on a course to true love -- proving that sometimes, destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this hilariously bumpy ride are some of Cole Porter and musical theatre's most memorable standards, including "I Get a Kick out of You," "It's Delovely," and of course, "Anything Goes."

Since its 1934 debut at the Alvin Theatre (now known as the Neil Simon Theater) on Broadway, the musical has been revived several times in the U.S., including the 2011 Roundabout Theater revival, starring Sutton Foster. "Anything Goes" has been filmed twice, and has garnered three Tony Awards, out of seven nominations.

The CPS production of "Anything Goes" will be directed by Donna Drake and choreographed by Rhonda Miller.
