Call for Local Blues Bands and Artists

Blues Music Competition will Determine Act at Alive at 5

ALBANY, NY (03/23/2012)(readMedia)-- The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) invite blues musicians to apply to compete in the first annual Blues Music Competition scheduled for Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM in several downtown Albany establishments. A panel of judges will review completed applications and selected artists will be eligible to compete in the competition that evening. Audience members will then vote for their favorite acts. The top three performers of the Blues Music Competition will all win the opportunity to perform at this summer's Alive at 5 Blues Night (date to be announced).

"Coming off the excitement of the Jazz Fest Competition last fall, where we had 10 bands competing in 10 different venues in Downtown, the Blues Music Competition will open the doors to even more local musicians," Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany Business Improvement District.

Completed applications, along with two songs (mp3 files) and a promotional photo (jpeg format) should be emailed to the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District at info@downtownalbany.org or received at the BID office on 40 N. Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12207 by Friday, April 6, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Bands chosen to compete will be paid a $100 stipend for their performance by their assigned venue. The three winners will play in front of an audience of over 5,000 at Alive at 5 and be paid $500 after their performance.
